Recently Cleaned Metal

If you've recently cleaned any metal, brass, copper, bronze or other type and you've used anything other than a mild soap and soft cloth you may have removed some of the lacquer protective coat.

Metal cleaners and polishes have abrasives

Most cleaners have an abrasive, although very mild they can remove some lacquer with each cleaning. Generally any type of polish has an abrasive of some type, quite often rottenstone or pumice. Rottenstone feels almost like talcum powder, but still is a polishing abrasive.

A good metal cleaner and lacquer

There is an easy to use and very effective Ornamental Brass Metal Cleaner Use a spray lacquer after you've done the cleaning. The lacquer is a very important step to preserve the metal.

Good idea to keep your ornamental metal clean

Keeping your brass, copper, bronze, or other ornamental metal clean, bright looking and protected is as important as keeping your wood furniture in good shape.

Lots of metal pieces are plated

Don't scrub too hard with any cleaner. Lots of ornamental metal is a thin coating of plating over a base metal and too much vigor and elbow grease can rub away the plating and expose the base metal.
