Clean Kitchen Cabinets for refacing and refinishing

Don't frown so big. I know your kitchen cupboards are hygienically clean, but there are little bits and things here and there that you normally can't get to and a thin film over the whole kit and kaboodle.

You will probably see a thin outline of each hinge after they're removed. That's an accumulation of cooking residue that no matter how much brushing or scrubbing will always be there. It won't cause you to get the horrible yuks, but it will effect the glue that will be involved later. It's better to clean your kitchen cabinets thoroughly before you strip or the cooking grease could spread out and get into some pores.

Most commercial household cleaners aren't strong enough to get right down to the bottom of caked on grease deposits, like the hinge imprint. You'll probably need to use something like paint thinner, lacquer thinner, denatured alcohol or a chemical designed for that type of cleaning, like the Prelude cleaner below.

Unless you clean your kitchen cabinets over every inch with a very good grease cutting cleaner after every meal you cook or use of the oven, you have a slight film on your kitchen cabinets and it should be removed. Dispose of the paper towels or other cleaning materials outside in a metal container with a tight fitting lid, because they will be highly combustible and could start a fire through spontaneous combustion if not disposed of properly.
