Guestbook

Periodcally our guestbook gets so full of good entries that we've had to split it into several pages. You'll find lots of interesting people at the following links.

Guest Book Page 1, Guest Book Page 2,Guest Book Page 3, Guest Book Page 4, Guest Book Page 5 and the Current Page in use now.

Regretfully, we had to discontinue our guestbook, because spammers kept it so full it was almost impossible to find the true guestbook entries and it was a very time consuming task to try to keep the spammers cleaned out.

I like your site but could not find an answer to my question. I have solid oak furniture stained a dark Spanish stain (almost brown-black. Probably dates back to the 60's or 70's. I am trying to get the original oak color back. Varnish and paint remover do not help. Is there anyting other than wood bleach I can use to obtain the original wood color without sanding?

I would like to be able to find information as to why someone would laminate a good solid woodend desk. Are you aware of a site/source for such information? I just came into the position of a small drop front desk, that I know to bee at least 50 years old. It is made of solid oak, but it is also laminated over this fine wood. The lamination is also wood. The lamiate is buckling and is going to be very difficult to restore. Any information would help.

I am going to strip an old Hoosier cabinet from the family farm. Granny painted it blue years ago. Is there any information on colors the manufacturers were using back in the day? I think it's pine and am not sure it was originally stained/varnished or just painted. Do you have any ideas of resources for original colors if that's what I end up doing?
Really enjoy this site. Thanks

I'm refinishing a kitchen table and chairs and should have read your site before I started. Anyway, I have sanded (which you said not to) the whole project. I tried stripping with a solvent but it wouldn't take the stain off so resorted to sanding. I have stained the chairs and just finished using one coat of Helms Urethane which I just read you don't recommend so before I finish should I use lacquer over the urethane or just finish with the urethane?? I haven't started staining the table yet and I'm more concerned about the table top. Do I what I used on the chairs so it will look the same?? I used a completely different stain than what was on it originally. The set is at least 60 - 70 years old, I'm guessing. It belonged to my grandparents.

I have 4 pieces of Hooker Office furniture that is only 2 years old. The finish is gummy. I can't even dust or go over it with a damp rag. The rag drags.

So I have a big project. In the past I used Varathane finish on my dining room and kitchen tables. For 10 years, 4 kids, lots of friends, they still look beautiful. I read your comments and now wonder if I did the wrong thing. For my office furniture, (it's in my family room), I think I will use laquer finish. I'm a little nervous.

I bought a matching stain, so I'm going to strip, sand lightly then stain and finish.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Lisa
