I wouldn't remove the dark stains from around the hinges and latch, because they're part of what gives the ice box character and sets it apart from reproductions. Household Bleach SolutionIf it's something other than an antique you might try a solution of one part household bleach and nine parts of water. Apply it with a cotton swab and let it sit a while. It might lighten the dark stains a little. You can neutralize the bleaching action by rubbing the area with a cut lemon. Tom  |
