Wicker furniture made from rattan palm was painted

Most wicker furniture is made from reed from the rattan palm .

The wicker furniture was sometimes left in it's natural state with no finish at all, but generally a clear finish was applied and very frequently the wicker furniture was painted. After decades of use the paint would wear thin and possibly chip.

How to paint to make it look new again comes along in a bit.

Build chipped places with primer paint or wood filler before painting wicker

Build up any chipped places on the wicker with primer paint or if they're large deep chips thin some wood filler and paint several layers into the chips, be sure to let each coat dry thoroughly before applying the next.

Good preparation is necessary for a good wicker painting project.

Sand rough edges

Lightly sand any rough or prominant edges

A light sanding is always required before painting over an already painted surface, but wicker furniture is totally impossible to sand effectively.

Liquid deglosser for wicker pre-painting preparation

Liquid deglosser will take care of wicker pre-painting preparation and cleaning and replace sanding. Apply it with a brush and it'll get into all the inaccessible places, then remove the excess liquid deglosser and residue with a dry brush. Wipe the brush frequently with a paper towel or rag.

Metal waste can

Be sure to keep your used cleaning materials in a Metal waste can to guard against spontaneous combustion.

How to paint wicker furniture with spray cans

The easiest way to paint wicker furniture is with spray cans, you can get into all the nooks and crannies easier. Latex spray paint is good as it's flexible and will resist cracking.

Paint the backs and underneath seats and arms for more protection of your wicker furniture.

If you follow these how to paint wicker furniture tips you can end up with like new furniture.
